The "Day of a Thousand Smiles" is the highlight of the year for the Rachel Cooper Foundation. Each October we invite 1000 handicapped and underprivileged children to be our guests for a fun filled day at the Big Apple Circus in Lincoln Center. To date, more than 23,000 of these children have attended a festive and fun filled day at the circus. |
|
The Foundation purchases the entire performance of the circus and sells the remaining tickets to our friends, loyal supporters, and corporate sponsors. All the proceeds from the “Day of a Thousand Smiles” goes to sustain our life saving work
with children throughout the world. |
|
Over the
years we have developed a strong bond
with many fine organizations that
serve the special needs of children,
such as United Cerebral Palsy,
Lighthouse for the Blind, Ronald
McDonald House, Lexington School for
the Deaf, Queens Society for Autistic
Children, Cancer Center for Kids and
the New York City Department of
Education’s Special Education
Department. The children eagerly
anticipate their annual visit to the
Circus and we are delighted by the
opportunity to provide them with a
memorable day of enchantment.
Some of the children are severely
handicapped, some of them are wheel
chair bound but that doesn’t prevent
them from laughing at the clowns and
cheering wildly for the many
exciting acts at this world-class
circus. The smiles on their faces
and the joy in their hearts
demonstrate the power and beauty of
giving. |

“The Day of a Thousand Smiles” is vitally
important to the Rachel Cooper Foundation
because it is our major fundraising event of
the year. Every ticket purchased helps us
wage our campaign against congenital heart
disease in children. It helps to support the
30-40 life saving surgeries for children
from around the world that we sponsor
through our Heal-A-Heart Program. It enables
us to invest in the training of a future
pediatric cardiologist through the Rachel
Cooper Fellowship.
If you are not able to join us at this year’s Circus, consider making a donation. You will make a thousand children very happy and help us to save lives.
